Wednesday October 25, 2006
The Treasures of Ancient Egypt: The Quest for Immortality travelling exhibition comes to the Portland Art Museum on November 4, 2006 through March 4, 2007. This unique exhibition focuses on the ancient Egyptian's afterworld. Over 100 artifacts, including sculpture, jewelry, sarcophagi, and other masterpieces of funerary art, will be on display. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a full-size replica of the tomb of Thutmose III, ruler of Egypt in the 15th century BCE. The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt is the largest selection of antiquities ever loaned by Egypt for exhibition in North America. The exhibition includes objects that have never been on public display and many that have never been seen outside of Egypt. The Portland Art Museum is the only West Coast venue. Tickets, which are timed for entry every 30 minutes, are on sale now. (photo courtesy of the Portland Art Museum)
