World Heritage Sites in the Northwest and Around the World
Monday July 13, 2009
UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, designates world heritage sites that are international cultural and natural treasures. Since the Northwest US is so rich in unique and magnificent landscapes, it's no wonder that it is home to four different official World Heritage Sites. Yellowstone National Park is cherished for its geothermal features and wildlife. Olympic National Park is home to diverse ecosystems, including lush temperate rainforests with world-record-sized trees. A network of Alaska parks and preserves makes the World Heritage site list, including mystical Glacier Bay National Park. The Waterton Glacier International Peace Park encompasses Montana's Glacier National Park, where you can view jagged peaks and snow-covered glaciers.
