You can't think about Portland, Oregon, without thinking about the city's love of nature. Hiking is a great way to experience Portland's dense green forests, complex wetlands, and the birds and wildlife that call these areas home. There are thousands of acres of natural space within the Portland metropolitan area, most offering hiking trails along with other recreation opportunities. These parks and preserves are open to the public and managed by city park departments, as Oregon State Parks, or even as national refuges.
