Marine Discovery Tours
Take an ocean and bay cruise aboard the "Discovery", a 65-foot excursion boat. An experienced naturalist provides the narration as you tour the bay, estuary, and open ocean environments. Depending on the season, you will have a chance to observe sea lions, otters, harbor porpoise, pelicans, and eagles - even gray whales. The "Discovery" is wheelchair-accessible and has both indoor and outdoor seating.
Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area
Located on a basalt promontory north of Newport, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse is Oregon's tallest continually active lighthouse, in operation since 1873. The Yaquina Head rocks and beaches have been designated as an "Outstanding Natural Area" for their abundance of marine life, including harbor seals, nesting sea birds, and gray whales. A network of trails takes you to tide pools, scenic cliffs, and panoramic viewpoints. Informative exhibits, a ship's wheelhouse, video presentations, and a gift shop are housed in the interpretive center.
Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site
Camping, fishing, picnicking, and beaches are some of the fun things you can enjoy at Yaquina Bay State Park. An historic lighthouse, the park's highlight, is open to the public.
