Seaside, Oregon, one of the oldest tourist destinations in the Pacific Northwest, is a fun place for families or for the young at heart. There's a huge sandy beach, lots of opportunities for play, and tasty treats of all kinds. Here are my recommendations for fun things to do in Seaside.
The Seaside Promenade

Stroll, jog, bike, or skate along the 1.8 miles of Seaside's paved oceanfront Promenade. Along the way you'll enjoy great people watching and fabulous beach and ocean views. The landmark automobile turnaround includes a statue of Lewis and Clark, commemorating the end of their long journey. The historic Promenade is dog, stroller, and wheelchair friendly.

Shopping in Seaside
Shops in Seaside Oregon
Seaside offers visitors the opportunity for some shopping fun. As you browse the shops you'll find everything from local crafts to fun beachwear to fresh candy. Here are my top picks for Seaside shopping:
- Phillips Candy Kitchen
Watch them pull and wrap fresh taffy and other homemade candies. Huge selection of fresh and packaged candy, including old-time favorites.
- Above It All Kites
Flags, banners, windsocks, and kites of all kinds.
- Oregon Gallery
Art photography and gift items.
- Under the Big Top
Toys, games, puzzles, and novelties.
Seaside Aquarium Sign
Located on the Promenade, this privately-owned aquarium occupies a former natatorium. The lively seals, most born at the aquarium, are a highlight. It's fun to watch their antics at feeding time; children will enjoy giving the seals some between-meal, fishy treats, which are available to purchase. Kids will also like the aquarium's touch tanks, where they can touch such creatures as sea anemones, sea stars, and sea urchins. Live and preserved marine specimens are among the other exhibits inside this modest aquarium.
Seaside Historical Society Museum
Seaside has some interesting local history. It's part of the region the Clatsop people call home. It was where Lewis and Clark expedition members established a salt-making camp during the winter of 1805. Seaside was one of the Northwest's first resort towns. The Seaside Historical Society Museum offers interesting exhibits, artifacts, and photographs on these topics and more. Tour the adjacent Butterfield Cottage, an early rooming house for summer visitors.
