Point Defiance Park is part of the Metro Parks Tacoma and covers over 700 acres. It is located at the northern tip of Tacoma and is surrounded by water to the west, north, and east.

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
Animal exhibits of all kinds, including tigers, polar bears, meerkat, otters, and sharks.
Fort Nisqually Living History Museum
Fort Nisqually, a Hudson's Bay Company fur-trading outpost built in 1833, was the first European settlement on Puget Sound. While not located at the original site, the living history museum does contain what remains of actual Fort Nisqually structures.
Point Defiance Park Gardens
Park visitors can wander through a variety of gardens, each planted and designed in a different theme and style. In addition to gorgeous flowers, you'll find interesting structures, sculpture, and water features. Here is a sample of the gardens found within Tacoma's Point Defiance Park:

Owen Beach
Hang out at Owen Beach and enjoy views of Vashon Island and ferries. The picnic shelters with tables and grills are popular. Kayak rentals, snack bars, and restrooms are available at Owen Beach (seasonal).
Recreation Trails at Point Defiance Park
Whether you're looking for a slow-paced stroll or a vigorous hike, you'll find you can choose from a number of trails within Point Defiance Park. Along the way you'll enjoy water and island views and forest and garden scenery. Here are a few of the trails:
- Spine Trail - Rhododendron Garden to Gig Harbor viewpoint
- Five Mile Drive - paved drive closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday and Sunday mornings
- Beach Promenade
Facilities at Point Defiance Park
Point Defiance Marina and Boathouse
This public marina and boathouse provides a boat launch, guest moorage, boat rentals, and a bait, tackle, and gift shop. Fishing is allowed off the pier. An Anthony's seafood restaurant is located next to the boathouse.
Pagoda at Point Defiance Park
This Japanese-influenced structure was built in 1914 as a streetcar waiting station. It is now a venue for flower shows and special events.
