Seattle takes its identity from a long list of things, including airplanes, baseball, and great food. Yet, these labels can mask the ever-changing complexity of the region and its people. Fortunately, you can get a more complete picture by taking advantage of a behind-the-scenes tour. Whether you're a native or a visitor, these tours will give you a fascinating look at the character of the Seattle metropolitan area.

Safeco Field
Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, offers regularly scheduled park tours throughout the year. These one-hour walking tours give you a peak at the press box, luxury suites, the natural-grass field, the dugout, and the visitor's clubhouse. Advance tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster (206-622-HITS). Group tours and children's birthday tours are also available.

Future of Flight & Boeing Factory Tour Center
Visitors can get an up-close view of real airplane manufacturing by visiting the Boeing Everett Tour Center. The Everett facility builds Boeing's twin-aisle models - 747s, 767s, and 777s. The new Future of Flight Center offers interactive exhibits that allow you to learn more about aviation technology.
Note: Everett is located 30 miles north of Seattle.

Pike Place Market
Seattle's public market is rich with interesting characters and colorful history. It is also a somewhat confusing maze; taking a guided tour reveals many hidden treasures. To find out more about scheduled walking tours, call 206-774-5249.

Benaroya Hall
Located adjacent to Pike Place Market, the new home of the Seattle Symphony is a world-class facility. In addition to state-of-the-art auditoriums, Benaroya Hall offers stunning city views, a unique garden, and a variety of exceptional artworks. Tours are held on weekdays at noon and 1:00 p.m.

University of Washington
Prospective students, their families, and interested individuals can enjoy a walking tour of the campus, known for the beauty of both its buildings and its grounds. Current UW students conduct these tours, offering the insight of firsthand experience. These free tours, scheduled twice daily, meet at the Office of Admissions in Schmitz Hall (except for State holidays). The UW web site also provides information on self-guided and specialty tour opportunities.

Seattle visitors can also enjoy a number of different food-tasting tours.
