A View from Icicle Ridge

Elizabeth Mitchell
A long weekend in any season is an excuse to travel northeast from Portland to the town of Leavenworth, Washington. If you yearn for European atmosphere, Leavenworth is the place for you. Enjoy the beautiful mountain trails, ski a little or just stroll the streets shopping and dining on German food. Your long weekend will be well spent.

Weather:
It snows in Winter and the passes may be a problem. But true to the Bavarian flavor of the town, the four seasons are distinctly beautiful.

Directions:
Go east on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass. Pass Cle-Elum and follow the signs to US-97 and Wenatchee over Blewett Pass. Turn left on Hwy 2 and travel 5 miles to Leavenworth. Carry chains in Winter (another route is via I-84 and Yakima).
