Northwest State US Quarters

Current Status

By Angela Brown, About.com

Jul 30 2008
The US Mint's 50 State Quarters® Program has been underway since 1999 and will continue 2008. Since the uniquely-designed quarters are being released in the order of official statehood, they are only now getting around to choosing and releasing the Northwest's quarters. Oregon's quarter was released in 2005. The Montana, Washington, and Idaho quarters are scheduled for release in 2007. Alaska's will be the 49th quarter released and will enter circulation in 2008.

Oregon
The Oregon State Quarter was released on June 6, 2005. It features a picture of Crater Lake.

Montana
The Montana State Quarter, which features a bison skull, was released on January 29, 2007.

Washington
The Washington State Quarter was released on April 2, 2007. It features a picture of a jumping salmon with Mount Rainier in the background.

Idaho
The Idaho State Quarter features a picture of a Perigrine Falcon and an outline of the state. It was released June 5, 2007.

Alaska
Alaska's citizens and children have been asked to submit their state quarter design ideas. The Alaska Commemorative Coin Commission is responsible for downselecting and submitting the designs. The official Alaska state quarter will be released into circulation in August 2008.
