Chief Timothy Park
Traveling down the Snake River, the Corps of Discovery crossed into present-day Washington at the point that is now the town of Clarkston. Experience the desert landscape firsthand with a visit to Chief Timothy Park, on a Snake River island near Clarkston. Camping, picnicking, and boating facilities are among the amenities provided by this state park, which took its name from a chief of the Nez Perce tribe. The Alpowai Interpretive Center presents information about the meeting of Lewis and Clark and the Nez Perce, along with exhibits related to the natural and human history of the area. Near the park are three historical markers noting points along the Lewis and Clark Trail.
