This is the femur of either a mastadon or a mammoth - they don't know for sure. At the time of my visit it was on display in the entry area of the Interpretive Center. They will run an exhibit called "Mammoth or Mastodon" from October 10, 2006 – June 10, 2007. Jefferson had requested that Lewis & Clark keep their eye out for such creatures during their journey, since the bones had found their way back east.
