An Historic Treasure
Built in 1909 as the Seward Hotel, The Governor Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places. Renamed The Governor Hotel in 1932, the grand structure enjoyed several decades as Portland's premiere luxury hotel. World War II changed things. During the war, the hotel was used as military housing and afterwards it served several more purposes. Finally the interior was completely renovated during the late 1980s, creating a modern hotel with grand decor inspired by the original.
The next-door building was incorporated into the hotel in 1992. Originally built as the Portland Elks Lodge in 1923, it's opulent Italian-Renaissance-style rooms are now used as ballrooms and meeting space.
